ABOUT THE CONSORTIUM
Herculean for horn octet will be premiered by the University of North Texas Horn Octet, under the direction of Dr. Katie McBain, at the 2026 Texas Music Education Association Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The consortium for this brand-new work is now open to join. Anyone can join this consortium.
The word "herculean" refers to or relates to the iconic character Hercules from Roman mythology. Hercules is famous for his god-like strength and immense bravery, and is often depicted in art and literature as a symbol of heroism and perseverance. In the vernacular sense, "herculean" also refers to something - usually a task or feat - that displays or requires extraordinary strength, power, intensity, or difficulty. Herculean for horn octet evokes these characteristics through a neo-Romantic style by combining broad, sweeping melodic lines with powerful harmonies and energetic gestures.
