PROGRAM NOTE
The Bermuda Triangle is a region of the North Atlantic Ocean stretching roughly between South Florida, Puerto Rico and Bermuda Island, and has been surrounded by lore and mystery as far back as the 1940's. As the site of numerous aircraft and marine vessel disappearances, many speculate the cause of those that go missing to be anything from vicious storms, to magnetic anomalies and even to supernatural phenomenon. Legend of Bermuda evokes the mystery and notoriety of this famed region by taking the listener through a cacophonous storm, beginning with the "calm" before and then quickly erupting into chaos as the storm ensues. Repetitive scalar neighbor-tone figures simulate the shape of waves, while lighting and thunder are imitated by call-and-response patterns in the percussion. Bold themes are passed around the ensemble, all while being underpinned by a relentless syncopated groove.
