PROGRAM NOTE
A La Bach takes its inspiration from and mimics the styles of famed Baroque-era composer Johann Sebastian Bach, but with a wider, more contemporary exploration of harmony modulation. The piece is structured as two parts: the chorale, reminiscent of Bach's well-known 4-part harmonizations; and the fugue, closely following the basic formal structure of a typical Baroque-style fugue, using Bach's "Little" Fugue in G Minor as a guide.
A La Bach was premiered on October 17th, 2023 by the Myriad Saxophone Quartet in Paul Voertman Concert Hall in Denton, Texas, U.S.A..
